Competing for Race to the Top dollars is in our students’ best interests. If we are to go from the fastest-growing district in the nation to the fastest-improving one, we need funding to hire more staff and increase our technology offerings to individualize curriculum. We can’t win the game if we’re not in the game. I'm happy to say we are in the game, and I’m pleased that we are taking the field with the teachers' union.

This mean whether they choose to go directly into the workforce or whether they choose post-secondary education, it ought to be a choice. They ought to have the skills necessary to do either. That is why I think a whole grassroots movement has to be implemented. We have to make sure our graduates are post-secondary ready or at least workforce ready. They are interchangeable, because you have to have the same level of skills to do both at a higher level.

Secondly, I would very quickly say that in order to do this, I am going to need partners to join us and in some cases I am going to need folks to demand it. I call it “critical partners,” and some of these critical partners will have to hold us accountable for better graduates and more graduates because our dropout rates are horrendous. We have to change this.

because i don't think we'll dig ourselves out until we do scale the individual.. [within an eclectic space such as a city, where people are no longer beholden to assumed schedules]..and let people decide what success or full potential is to them.. rather than handing out standardized success quotas.. et al.

now imagine .. we unleashed the *impoverished in school bldgs. everywhere, ny, la, Kampala, Jackson, Vegas, Perth, ...

and come to find out... every one of them has some neglected genius. every one.

now innovation, crazy, unthinkable, ... is the norm.

isn't that how learning goes..? authentic learning, by every person ..unleashed to their authenticity.

*ie: those labeled unfit.. or labeled.. exceptional, exceedingly bright...

yet if you listen to each one of them... each one... they are craving more.

imagine.. city as school... where no genius hides or dies, because we're finally listening to every soul..

then, perhaps, we cease to create/manufacture problems we seem to have no time to solve.. and in good health, we do/ be/become work/play that matters.

I think we could do that on a multi trillion dollar budget. no?

problem today... we're using that money to perpetuate and /or bandaid-ize problems, rather than not create them in the first place.

we have brilliant people in school blds, 7 hrs a day, 5 days a week... they could pull us out... back to us... if we set them free.. even just for one year.

people dropping out is a good sign.. a sign we are starting to give choice w/no strings attached. we re missing one of the best aspects of moocs/audits/learning even when these vast numbers are screaming back at us.

1. get rid of time spent proving. ie: intentional trail via being/doing/connecting aggregated by messiness king.. the web ie: the brain-ish, rather than (or along with if you must) - documenting linear - very questionable- proof/credentials; (see bunker roy-community as curriculum and even as measure - if you must)

2. hasten connecting and grokking and ... being.

this will only exponentiate in a timely fashion (also in a -blowing us away -fashion) if we scale the individual in such an eclectic place as a city, one where people believe they have nothing to prove, that there is never nothing going on.
