what matters

... in a day..

warning.. heavy day

day starts:
talking with more teachers that are at their wits end.. hands are tied in making things better.
none of this is about overarching expertise. it’s all about collective expertise.. ownership.. proactive alive people.. all of us

soak in and listen to h talking about credentialing, and how to you account for the learning that goes on from being a parent. listen to h and m interact on the module within the unit or the unit within the module, ... how do we craft the backward design, how far do we zoom out first, etc.
same story (for me anyway) for 20 yrs… why are we playing the same game.
the biggest problem.. it’s consuming us.. stressing us all out.
has us pitted against each other.
hospice. 2 loop theory. i'm thinking.

later:
i notice back at the house, c, j, e working on recording room. cool part, not what it is, but that it’s something they’ve been wanting to do and they’re doing it. happy vibes. positive energy.

a bit later:
c comes up and asks, how would you respond if someone says, china is better than us because they are sitting in school while we sit in a recording studio.
my response… my response would be … better at what?...
if you say better at pisa, which is how we make those measure/statements, when you come down to it, and that includes school math, such as rationalizing a denominator (whether or not that it involves learning what others are deciding you should learn) then yes,
if you say better a quality of life, then no. or at least not cut and dried. no way to tell. no?
why matters. and for why to be real, it has to come from inside, no?
this whole judging. and accepting the judging. and accepting what the judging is on. ugh.
carly is teaching me that our labels of disabled or whatever, is our bad. what we're missing is that whatever we're seeing as a loss is some super power, super art/genius. shame on us for looking for it. so much easier to think we need to fix them.

like 3 min later:
text from p, student committed suicide
he's floored – saying we have to stop school. we have to get out to them that life is so much more than what we're making it. (he had just told me the week before about some people coming into his health class and explaining that people with suicidal thoughts needed to take the medicine they were prescribing.)

later on:
find out disrespect of person vying for creativity in the city, is it popular thought, or mindless groupthink, or ego?
wondering much about this. creativity as art, as that thing you can't not do. as that thing that keeps you wanting to wake up every day. why would we consider that not mattering. are we seeking counsel from ourselves? or just playing along...?

later on:
am fb messages me article – suicide relatedto low cholesterol, which we see as healthy,

later i search:
and I notice that china is top country insuicide.
also notice that vegas is high.
