if tech only did one thing - teach people to collab - would be worth any amount of money.

As a student assistant at the Digital Media and Learning Research Hub at University of California Irvine (dmlcentral.net) and having been a student at High Tech Los Angeles, I believe that yes, technology is very integral to not just attendance, but to engaging one's self in learning. The motivation a student has comes from doing what they enjoy and technology, which has unlimited possibilities, is something that fascinates and engages most, if not, all students. To integrate that into learning is definitely a big step forward, and one that other schools will probably need to take.
@Rockerwitnoidea - thank you for your insight, what a great background you have. high tech was one of the first schools i started studying about 3 years ago when i read disrupting class.
i'm just finishing up Jane McGonigal's Reality is Broken.. have you read it? would love your take on her call to wholehearted participation..
