compulsion vs choice

wondering about us...
could it be that our assumed adolescence through mid life are perhaps direct results of a publicly prescribed compulsory curriculum...in spaces not of our choosing (or at least not normally a unanimous choice of the people occupying that space at that time)

interesting how this take on humor -no matter the context, matches take on process of learning -no matter the context. (detox.. self reflecting prompted by process of learning to learn)

valuing children's play
how very interesting. this seems to me what we are doing with our detox documentation. how poignant as well. taking this beyond kindergarten via kindergarten.

The educational establishment has ceased admiring the stunning originality of its youngest students, preferring lists of numerical and alphabetical achievement goal (pp. 32- 33).

She tell us to become keen observers and to record what the children say and do as they engage in dramatic play and to use this as source material for the adult stories we need to tell about young children, the importance of play, and learning..
We who value play must do more than complain of unwanted drills that steal away our time. We must find time for play and keep daily journals of what is said and done during play if we are to convince anyone of its importance. Our children will happily join us in the project by giving us their stories that so well explain their play when the stories are acted out (p.33).

just in time posting dear.

lernzeitraume

Since I entered the learning periods in my skepticism brewing in the system. SinceI know the learning periods, is becoming increasingly clear to me what Otto saidheart when he spoke of "teaching" is a concept from Prussia, and that one shouldnot speak of "teaching". Since I know the learning periods, I've got the desire to see very different school of thought, and tear down all the walls that you have built up during his own long experience of school.
Learning periods is a free primary and secondary school in Dossenheim nearHeidelberg. There are no classes here, but learning groups - mixed ages: the wildcats (equivalent to school years 1-3), the seals and dingoes (school years 4-6) and the geckos and Tiger (school years 7-9). The students learn together in these groups on the one hand, the other heavily customized. In a math group that I have visited, the children learn individually with self-learning materials. Whiledealing with a break statement that solve other tasks to "Calculating with money."Who needs stuff, it gets out of the closet. Students help each other, even ifsomeone gets no further. The teacher knows every student and every student ofthe current status and can individually call the next steps and tasks. Those whocan not deal with tasks, is dedicated to continue in the "study time". Students alsoare concerned with self-selected projects. A student once came and I was sosurprised that he wanted to deal with Platonic solids - which he had found on the Internet, and have the "what with math" to do. Anyone who has a couple of hoursspent in the learning time grant, which can almost feel that is learned here, and you get it even feel that the students want the ...? It also still have fun? Is there such a thing?
Of course, this is not a paradise - there are lots of problems and difficulties, because there always is when you're dealing with very different people andgroups. But anyway: The basic atmosphere is quite different than "regular schools". It is: A family. Friendlier. Conducive to learning. More human. That's right: you are human. In the classrooms, there are group tables, booths,comfortable corners. No barracks-like rows of desks facing the front, where youhold the door nice and "follow the instruction" must. The teachers .... sorry ... by the way the group leaders are familiarly. The team is just as colorful as the schoolphilosophy teacher (inside), educationist (inner), psychologists, forest, adventureand drama teachers, qualified sports teachers and educators fee.
And I find particularly appealing at this school: It is modern. Many educationalreform school after they say yes, that ideas on the first half of the 20th Century is based and is therefore also arrested at this time. Not so the learning periods: This is an attempt to combine all this together, which is held for the students to be good: Elements of the plan and Jena Freinetpädagogik be combined with newscientific findings. For precisely this reason, the headmistress Signe BrunnerOrawsky coming toward me some time ago and asked me if I do not wantprojects with students at the school about computers and the Internet. After ashort visit, I was fully convinced that I was armed with one another, beyond thisidea: Because I've already decided (following the example of Jean-Pol Martin),regularly employed to be in a school for the practical keep, and a field for educational experiments have to, I will participate in future in the school with computer and Internet projects. I think it's great that I may (thanks to Signe andthe whole school team!), And I am very sure, be a small part of the school community to be allowed. I'm comfortable in the learning periods.
As breaks go in a "normal school" from? Hectic, right? Did the teacher really"break"? I mean, can you really relax during the break? I've learned: No, they can not. In the study periods, the team comes together during the break ... and eat together. You sit down at a table, there is bread, sausage and cheese, and we converse in a pleasant, quiet atmosphere. Lisa Rosa commented on theEduCamp: "It is clear. If the teachers are doing well, then it's also good students"have nothing to add

Nee, lass mal.
