The sanity of the victim is at stake because the perpetrator uses misinformation and various nuances to create doubt in the perceptions of the victim. “I don’t think you are remembering correctly,” you might hear a victimizer say to their victim. Distorting the perception of the victim ultimately leads to the victim taking on responsibility for whatever offense that was committed against them by someone else.
Like the battered wife who is told if she would act the way her partner wants her to, she would get hit less we are made to endure debates about how we can be less worthy of being hit.

It's kind of amazing, just the public *believing* something different is enough to create significant change.

A mass hallucination, indeed.
"Earlier this week, the world was subjected to the words that nobody can un-read or un-hear regarding the CIA's torture of captives: "rectal rehydration with hummus and pine nuts." This phrase alone should make everybody who knows the alphabet stop, put their newspaper or reading device down, protest in the streets and demand that everyone involved with this "program" be put in orange jumpsuits. But this is 2014, and the national policy on butts is far from clear.
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, in regards to government agents putting hummus in your rear-end, said this week that the Constitution does not specifically forbid torture. Now, I am but a French major and do not hold a juris doctorate, and I thought that the Eighth Amendment against cruel and unusual punishment meant you couldn't torture people with chick peas in their gastrointestinal tract. Hell, I'm old enough to remember when we invaded Iraq so we could stop Saddam Hussein from torturing people. But anyhow, Scalia thinks torture, including things in your butt, is not only constitutional but also this weird thing he calls "conservative." ....
....The Honorable Mr. Small Government Antonin Scalia led the way to establish the essential precedent that OF COURSE the government can get in your butt cheeks over a parking ticket because of a ticket you already paid, because there might be a terrorist somewhere on earth with a nuclear bomb in his keister, obviously! .....
......It's 2014. We are actual having to debate the role of the government and your butt with people who think that body cavity searches over parking tickets are totally cool but who think that tyranny is what happens when we expand Medicaid."

College does not lead to high economic status; high economic status leads to college. Educational attainment is a marker of high social class, not the cause of it:
The social distance caused by inequality is not solved by having some children from poorer families wind up well off as adults. At best, such a person jumps from one class to another. But that jumping still leaves intact the underlying class differences.

we like to imagine that the poor kid who goes on to be rich has a foot in both classes and acts as some sort of bridge of understanding. In reality, it appears that the very upwardly mobile poor kid becomes alienated at both ends of the class spectrum. They become alienated from their lower class background because their educational and lifestyle differences make it increasingly harder to relate to their past. And they remain alienated from their upper class destination because they never fully fit in. It's one thing to move from one economic class to another. It's quite another to truly move from one social group to another.

Social distance is not likely to be much affected by attempts at making bridges between classes via upwardly mobile poor kids. If you want to reduce the social distance between social groups, you need to reduce the material basis of that distance.

During emergencies people respond to calls for help. If rides are needed, @Uber should just try letting its drivers know rides are needed.

Yep, always does. RT @TeachGuz: @Uber I'm pretty sure complete strangers would pick people up. Happened during Boston Marathon bombing.
