best piece of advice for being a teacher?... for being alive even...
via ben wilkoff
via will richardson (watch this clip later.. you'll love it)
what's key about Will's message for me personally - he taught me - to
do it for yourself first.

if you aren't learning something new everyday..
you shouldn't be a teacher. period.
are you even alive?

We have messed things up quite a bit:
We have messed things up quite a bit:
1) assessments - assessment should be ongoing - self-induced - opportunities to tweak yourself, we've made them a faulty tool to tell people if they are good or bad - perpetual beta
2) teaching vs learning - teachers should model learning, not so much teaching, in the classroom [erica mcwilliams, usefully ignorant, knowing what to do when you don't know what to do]
3) standardization should be about access, for people - you need customization
access - to web and tools
process - are teachers modeling learning via ple?
connectivity - are students connecting to ple with help from teachers/facilitators and via their modeling

so i'm telling you..
do it for yourself first.
Create your own pln per passion - in some ning, on twitter, face-to-face
look again, esp, how ben carefully selected his, and i guarantee you, everything else will fall into place. i'm wondering if it's the only way to get true
(ben just tweeted me ... wanted me to let you know he is always available for conversation. he is an incredible thinker.. daily questions here.)

overwhelmed? - don't even know where to start?
1. read a book or two
2. read a post daily... i suggest seth godin or ben wilkoff

2. from my life experiences: join twitter...for starters follow these (twitter houses my daily pln...do realize it's slow at first)
3. in the future: innovation lab
1. ultimate goal - so extreme - kids create - school is life
2. tech interns - now teachers model learning in class, too much new to do it any other way
ie: how to use cells and pivot: web search as if we're really searching the web and 7th grade ple
3. media interns - hub of school - key to web access for kids that don't have it
4. marketing - how we get better spending and open access
