.@CharlesMBlow Shameful data on the violence and poverty the high school graduating class of 2013 has experiencednyti.ms/11G9Ll8
today’s students are tomorrow’s workers.

very interesting word choose.. esp in light of message

For instance, we are among only three countries that have not ratified the United Nations’ 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Unicef calls “the first legally binding international instrument to incorporate the full range of human rights — civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.” The other two countries are South Sudan, which just became a country in 2011, and Somalia.

oh my if this is true

Embarrassing is an understatement, but efforts to have the United States ratify the treaty have been met with opposition from Republicans because, as Mother Jones reported in 2010, “Under the treaty, ‘parents would no longer be able to administer reasonable spankings to their children,’ the government couldn’t sentence teenagers to life in prison, kids could get sex-ed and birth control if they wanted it, and — gasp! — children would be able to choose their own religion, according to a fact sheet published byParentalRights.org.”

and what about .. direct their own learning..
as that underpins all of it mentally..
and physically..
is imposing/imprisoning people 7 hrs a day, for 12+ years..
no?

Jayeesha Dutta Sobering article, although I don't really like dig the shaming of Somalia at the end...the father of my best friend growing up has been serving as the deputy prime minister of the country - in exile - for the last several years. The tribal warfare plaguing their country is much bigger than the ratification of UN treaties right now...

just finished dead aid.. fitting.

@NMHS_Principal I know you know this, but all I'm saying is "Newsweek's Best High School" can't be the end goal any longer.

@willrich45 Urgency, yes. I see the urgency, but training and support needs to follow suit. #satchat
