Of course, the Net can scale that large only because it doesn’t have edges within which knowledge has to squeeze. No edges mean no shape. And no shape means that networked knowledge lacks what we have long taken to be essential to the structure of knowledge: a foundation.

learning/life is not linear.. we have created pyramids, and great curriculum maps, et al, just to study it more, get better at it. but the abundance is now such a gift.. helps us to take a breath and realize.. a network, a web, a rhizome.. has no foundation..

Both agree that the old systems of credentialing authorities are too slow and leave too much talent outside the conversation. Both see that there are times when the rapid development of ideas is preferable to careful and certain development. Both acknowledge that there is value in disagreement and in explorations that may not result in consensus.
