This is one of those truth is stranger than fiction things. Apparently the Texas GOP passed a "no-critical thinking" issue as part of their platform this year. I may try to find out more on what motivated this, but on the surface it is just unbelievable.
Did they "mess up" trying to speak out against something very specific int heir community? Are HOTS and OBE some sort of keywords and it is just a badly formed sentence or what? Or is this something larger?
Here's the quote from their political platform:
"We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority."
