first iste, first edublogger, first time to meet tweet friends face to face.
very incredible experience.
even cooler than that... listening to some brilliant minds tell about how they redefine school.
wrath of mobius, austin, morgan and aimee came.
we met another great student _____insert name soon.. that will be showcasing her great work - creating her own rosetta stone.
some cool things said:
austin -
when asked if we'll do grades. he said we would - but they will be measuring something different, more on what is done as opposed to specific content
he also talked about getting a good grade in a class.. but he feels like he doesn't really know the stuff a year later.

when asked about rigor and motivation. he said - it's like a kid who is into art... you just do it...this is like doing other courses like it's your art. (that's even before he read godin and robinson)
he said he doesn't think being successful will be a problem.. kids really want to be in the lab, and are working extra, reading books, etc. because they want to
chase -
kids speak the same language - that's why student made tutorials work so well
explains why he uses youtube and voicethread to host them
parents said - they have just always been life-long learners - growth mindset, so this is just a natural fit
aimee -
talks about being able to fit more into her schedule by doing her lab course in a more intense way. she also hopes/believes it will make her learning more authentic - immersion
she said most kids think the idea is cool - but are afraid of where it will lead to college..
she said she thinks more colleges are looking at stand outs - rather than just gpa - so she thinks being a part of the innovation lab will be a plus
redefine school - videos, docs, and prezi of their ideas/plan/activities
talk-ed - our class site -ish
- site for global student learning via @stevehargadon @jennyluca @jackiegerstein
- site for global connection - austin's course - within education beyond borders via @noblekelly and @speters
doc: bird's eye view
